Problem

Action

The power steering pressure line is grounding out.

Inspect the power steering pressure line for the following conditions:

    • The correct mounting.
    • The correct clearance. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement

The rack bearing preload is improperly adjusted.

Tighten the rack bearing adjustment to specification.

Refer to Steering Gear Rack Bearing Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle .

The power steering gear is loose.

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to specification. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

The tie rod ends are loose.

Replace the tie rod ends. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

The intermediate steering shaft universal joints are loose.

  1. Service the intermediate shaft universal joints as needed. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  2. Replace the intermediate shaft universal joints as needed. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
