Was the BCM diagnostic system check performed?

Check for Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Refer to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (LX5) or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (L36) in Engine Controls for more information.

Are there any PCM DTCs present?

  1. Connect a scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Using scan tool, select BCM data display inputs and monitor the park brake switch input.
  3. While observing the scan tool, apply and then release the park brake.

Does the scan tool indicate that the park brake input is off while the park brake is released?

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Disconnect the scan tool from the DLC.
  3. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  4. Release the park brake.
  5. Using a test light, connect between B+ and the BCM connector C1 terminal D5.

Is the test light off?

  1. Leave the test light connected from the previous step.
  2. Disconnect the park brake indicator switch electrical connector.

Is the test light off?

  1. Leave the test light connected from the previous step.
  2. Disconnect the DRL module electrical connector C2.

Is the test light off?

--

  1. Disconnect the scan tool from the DLC.
  2. Turn the ignition switch off.
  3. Reconnect connectors/components removed.
  4. Close all the vehicle doors.
  5. Apply the park brake.
  6. Step firmly and hold the brake pedal.
  7. Start the engine.
  8. While shifting the transaxle into DRIVE, listen to the chime.
  9. While the transaxle is in the DRIVE, release the park brake. Note that the chime stops.
  10. Shift the transaxle into PARK.
  11. Turn the engine off.

Did the BCM stop the chime for the park brake reminder upon the releasing the park brake while the transaxle was in DRIVE?

  1. Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement for service procedures.
  2. After BCM replacement, perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Reinstall the connectors/components removed.
  3. Check for BCM current DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying in Body Control System.
