  1. Step firmly and hold the brake pedal.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Shift the transaxle into DRIVE.
  4. With the help of an assistant, observe the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL).
  5. Shift the transaxle into PARK.
  6. Turn the engine off.

Were the DRL on when the transaxle was in DRIVE?

Check the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Refer to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (LX5) or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (L36) in Engine Controls for more information.

Are there any PCM DTCs present?

Go to appropriate DTC table in Engine Controls

  1. Connect a scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Using scan tool, monitor the park brake switch input.
  3. While observing the scan tool, apply and then release the park brake.

Does the scan tool indicate that the park brake input is on while the park brake is applied?

  1. Apply the park brake.
  2. Turn the ignition switch off.
  3. Disconnect the scan tool from the DLC.
  4. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  5. Using a test light, connect between B+ and the BCM connector C1 terminal D5.

Is the test light on?

  1. Disconnect the scan tool from the DLC.
  2. Turn the ignition switch off.
  3. Reconnect connectors/components removed.
  4. Apply the park brake.
  5. Step firmly and hold the brake pedal.
  6. Start the engine.
  7. While shifting the transaxle into DRIVE, listen to the chime.
  8. Shift the transaxle into PARK.
  9. Turn the engine off.

Did the BCM sound the park brake reminder when the transaxle was shifted into DRIVE with the park brake applied?

  1. Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System for replacement procedures.
  2. After BCM replacement, perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Reinstall the connectors/components removed.
  3. Check for BCM current DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying in Body Control System.

Are there any BCM current DTCs present?
