DEFINITION: The BCM sounds the fasten seat belt reminder chime for six seconds when turning the ignition switch from the off to the on position with the driver's seat belt fastened. Also, the instrument cluster turns on the fasten belts indicator for 75 seconds when turning the ignition switch from the off to the on position

Was the BCM diagnostic system check performed?

  1. Connect a scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Using the scan tool, monitor the seat belt switch input.
  3. While observing the scan tool, fasten and release the driver's seat belt.

Does the scan tool indicate that the seat belt input is unbuckled with the driver's seat belt unfastened?

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Make sure the driver's seat belt is unfastened.
  3. While observing the fasten belts indicator and listening to the chime, turn the ignition switch on.

Did the fasten seat belt reminder chime sound for 4-8 seconds and the indicator lamp turns on for 63-77 seconds? (Note: the fasten seat belts indicator lamp flashes for the last 50 seconds).

  1. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  2. Fasten the driver's seat belt.
  3. Using a test light, connect between B+ and the BCM connector C1 terminal C11.

Is the test light off?

  1. Leave the test light connected from the previous step.
  2. Disconnect the driver's seat belt switch electrical connector.

Is the test light off?

The malfunction is not present at this time. Refer to Audible Warnings Circuit Description for additional information regarding the operation of the fasten seat belt reminder, and indicator lamp.

  1. Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System for replacement procedures.
  2. After BCM replacement, perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

Repair short to ground in circuit 238.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Reinstall the connectors/components removed.
  3. Check for BCM current DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying in Body Control System for procedure.
