DEFINITION: The courtesy lamps do not turn on when a passenger door is open. The courtesy lamps turn on when the I/P lamp dimmer switch is in the DOME position.

Was the BCM diagnostic system check performed?

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC).
  3. Turn the ignition switch on.
  4. Using scan tool, monitor the status of the DRIVER DOOR SWITCH.
  5. While observing the scan tool, open then close the driver's door.

Does the scan tool display that the status of the DRIVER DOOR SWITCH is OPEN when the driver's door is open?

  1. Make sure all the vehicle doors are closed.
  2. While observing the scan tool, open then close each vehicle door, one door at a time.

Does the scan tool display that the status of the DOOR JAMB SWITCH is ON when each vehicle door is open?

  1. Disconnect the scan tool from the DLC.
  2. Make sure all the vehicle doors are closed.
  3. Turn the ignition switch on.
  4. While observing the courtesy lamps, open then close each vehicle door, one at a time.

Do the courtesy lamps turn on when each vehicle door is open?

  1. Leave the driver's door open.
  2. Disconnect the BCM harness connector C1.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the resistance between the Body Control Module (BCM) connector C1 terminal D16 and ground by backprobing.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Less than 2ohms

Go to Step 12

  1. Open the inoperative door. Note: If none of the doors turns on the courtesy lamps, then leave the driver's door open.
  2. Disconnect the BCM harness connector C1.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the resistance between the BCM harness connector C1 terminal C16 and ground by backprobing.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Less than 2ohms

Go to Step 12

  1. Disconnect the driver's door lock switch electrical connector C1.
  2. Using a test lamp, connect between B+ and the door lock switch harness connector C1 terminal D.

Is the test light on?

  1. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the resistance between the BCM harness connector C1 terminal D16 and the driver's door lock switch harness connector C1 terminal C.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Less than 2ohms

  1. Disconnect the inoperative door lock switch electrical connector C1.
  2. Using a test lamp, connect between B+ and:
  3. • LF or LR door: door lock switch harness connector C1 terminal D.
    • RF or RR door: door lock switch harness connector C1 terminal A.

Is the test lamp on?

  1. Disconnect the BCM connector C1.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the resistance between the BCM harness connector C1 terminal C16 and:
  3. • LF or LR door: door lock switch harness connector C1 terminal B.
    • RF or RR door: door lock switch harness connector C1 terminal C.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Less than 2ohms

The malfunction is not present at this time. Refer to Interior Lights Circuit Description for more information regarding the operation of the courtesy lamps.

    • Inspect the BCM connector C1 for a poor terminal contact. Perform the repairs as necessary.
    • If the BCM connector is OK, then replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
    • After the BCM replacement, perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Reinstall the connectors/components removed.
  3. Check for BCM DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying in Body Control System.
