Illuminated Entry Lamps Inoperative Mode Malfunction

DEFINITION: The Body Control Module (BCM) has these interior lighting modes:

    • Delayed illumination turns on the courtesy lamps for 25 seconds after the last door is closed with the ignition switch off.
    • Exit lighting turns on the courtesy lamps for 25 seconds upon removing the key from the ignition switch.

This table diagnoses a problem when these interior lighting modes do not operate as specified.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on.
  2. Lower the driver's window (to prevent lockout).
  3. Close all the vehicle doors.
  4. Turn off the I/P lamp dimmer switch.

Are courtesy lamps off?

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Leave the key in the ignition switch.
  3. Open any vehicle door.

Does the key in ignition chime sound?

Was the BCM diagnostic system check performed?

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Close all the vehicle doors.
  3. Make sure to turn off the I/P lamp dimmer switch.
  4. Turn the ignition switch from off to on, then back to off.
  5. While observing the courtesy lamps, remove the key from the ignition switch.

Upon removing the key from the ignition switch, do courtesy lamps turn on for 25 seconds?

Upon the last door closed, do courtesy lamps turn on for 25 seconds?

  1. Turn the ignition switch from off to on, then back to off.
  2. Open, then close any vehicle door.
  3. While observing the courtesy lamps, turn the ignition switch on.

Upon turning the key to the RUN position, did the courtesy lamps turn off?

    • Inspect the Body Control Module (BCM) connectors for poor terminal contact. Make the repairs as necessary.
    • If the BCM connectors are OK, then replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
    • After BCM replacement, perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

Is the repair complete?

DEFINITION: The courtesy lamps do not turn for 40 seconds when unlocking the doors using the keyless entry transmitter.

  1. Lower the driver's window (to prevent lockout).
  2. Close and lock all the vehicle doors.
  3. Turn the ignition switch from off to on, then back to off.
  4. Leave key in the ignition switch.
  5. While observing the courtesy lamps and driver's door lock, press unlock on keyless entry transmitter.

Upon pressing unlock on keyless entry transmitter, did the driver's door lock unlock?

  1. Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
  2. After BCM replacement, perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.
