  1. Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE warning indicator stay on?

--

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Leave the brake fluid level indicator switch disconnected.
  3. Disconnect the electronic brake traction control module (EBTCM) connector C1.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE warning indicator stay on?

Go to Step 5

Replace the brake fluid level indicator switch. Refer to Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step 19

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Leave the EBTCM connector C1 and the brake fluid level indicator switch disconnected.
  3. Disconnect the park brake indicator switch.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE warning indicator stay on?

Refer to Diagnostic System Check - ABS (RPO L36) or Diagnostic System Check - ABS (RPO LX5).

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Leave the park brake switch, EBTCM connector C1 and the brake fluid level indicator disconnected.
  3. Disconnect the daytime running lamps (DRL) control module.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE warning indicator stay on?

Replace the park brake indicator switch. Refer to Parking Brake Indicator Switch Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Leave the daytime running lamps (DRL) control module, park brake indicator switch, EBCM/EBTCM connector C1 and brake fluid level indicator switch disconnected.
  3. Disconnect the body control module (BCM) connector C1.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the BRAKE warning indicator stay on?

Test for a short to ground in circuit 1830.

  1. Leave the instrument cluster connector, BCM, EBTCM connector C1 and brake fluid level indicator switch disconnected.
  2. Test for a short to ground in circuit 209.

Is there a short to ground in circuit 209?
