Was the instrument cluster diagnostic system check performed?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Install scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  3. Turn the ignition switch on.
  4. Using scan tool, establish communication with the instrument cluster.
  5. On scan tool, select special functions under main menu.
  6. On scan tool, select output control under special functions main menu.
  7. On scan tool, select tachometer gauge sweep test under output control main menu.

Does the tachometer gauge perform a full sweep when commanded to do so?

Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (RPO LX5) or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check (RPO L36) in Engine Controls

Go to Step 3

Replace the instrument cluster.

Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement for service procedure.
