Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the Tires and Wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Disconnect the ABS electrical harness.

  4. Object Number: 156949  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the trailing arm (1) from the knuckle.
  6. Remove the trailing arm bracket-to-body bolts.
  7. Disconnect the trailing arm from the trailing arm bracket (2).
  8. Remove the trailing arm (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 156949  Size: SH
  1. Connect the trailing arm (1) to the trailing arm bracket (2).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bracket bolt/screw and nut.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket nut to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

  5. Position the trailing arm bracket to the body.
  6. Install bracket mounting bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the trailing arm bracket to body bolts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

  8. Connect the trailing arm to the knuckle.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the trailing arm to knuckle nut to 70 N·m (52 lb ft) +65 degrees

  10. Connect the ABS electrical harness.
  11. Install the Tires and Wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
