Removal Procedure

  1. Open the console storage lid.
  2. Remove the front floor console trim plate. Refer to Front Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges,and Console.
  3. Ensure the cup holder is in the open position.

  5. Remove console shifter control trim plate bolts

  6. Object Number: 289507  Size: SH
  7. Remove the front floor console bolts.
  8. Remove the front floor console.

  10. Disconnect the console shift control wiring harness, right side.

  11. Object Number: 161221  Size: SH
  12. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer.

  13. Object Number: 161220  Size: SH
  14. Disconnect and remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the console shift control and bracket.

  15. Object Number: 161222  Size: SH
  16. Disconnect the console shift control wiring harness, left side.

  17. Object Number: 161226  Size: SH
  18. Disconnect and remove the park lock cable from the console shift control and bracket.

  19. Object Number: 161218  Size: SH
  20. Remove the console shift control nuts.
  21. Remove the console shift control.

  23. Remove the retainer (1) in order to remove the console shift control handle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the console shift control handle, if removed.
  2. Install the console shift control handle retainer.

  4. Correctly installed console shift control handle retainer (1).

  5. Object Number: 289503  Size: SH
  6. If the retainer is not flush with the handle it is incorrectly installed (1).

  7. Object Number: 161218  Size: SH
  8. Install the console shift control.
  9. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Install the console shift control nuts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the console shift control nuts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  12. Install and connect the park lock cable to the console shift control and bracket.
  13. Adjust the park lock cable. Refer to Park Lock Cable Adjustment .

  15. Connect the console shift control wiring harness,left side.

  16. Object Number: 161220  Size: SH
  17. Install and connect the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the console shift control and bracket.

  18. Object Number: 161221  Size: SH
  19. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer.
  20. Adjust the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment .

  21. Object Number: 161223  Size: SH
  22. Connect the console shift control wiring harness, right side.

  23. Object Number: 289507  Size: SH
  24. Install the front floor console.
  25. Install the front floor console bolts.
  26. Tighten
    Tighten the front floor console bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).


    Object Number: 289506  Size: SH
  27. Install console shifter control trim plate bolts
  28. Tighten
    Tighten the console shift control trim plate bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

    Important: The cup holder must be in the open position in order to install the front floor console trim plate.

  29. Install the front floor console trim plate. Refer to Front Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
