There is air in the power steering system.

1. Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump Leaks .
2. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

The steering column to steering gear joints are loose or worn.

1. Inspect the joints from the column to the steering gear for the correct torque.
2. Replace the joints from the column to the steering gear as needed. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

The power steering gear is loose.

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to specification. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The tie rod ends are loose.

1. Inspect the tie rod ends. Refer to Power Steering System Inspection .
2. Replace the tie rod ends. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

The wheel bearings are worn.

Replace the wheel bearings. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement in Front Suspension.

There is excessive play in the steering.

Refer to Too Much Play in Steering .
