Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the right instrument panel (I/P) insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  2. Remove the I/P compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  3. Remove the screws and push pin from the rear I/P compartment cover.
  4. Remove the rear I/P compartment cover from the I/P.
  5. Remove the 2 bolts from the relay pack.
  6. Position the relay pack aside.

  8. Disconnect the two vacuum lines from the defroster actuator (3).
  9. Disconnect the orange vacuum line from the recirculation actuator and install a hand vacuum pump (2).
  10. Remove the defroster actuator from its attachment to the HVAC module case.
  11. Using the hand vacuum pump (2) open the recirculation actuator door.
  12. Rotate the defroster actuator to the right and up into the opening between the back of the dash and the opening into the HVAC module. The opening which results when the recirculation actuator door is in the full open position.
  13. Disconnect the defroster actuator from the defroster door arm.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the defroster actuator to the defroster door arm and snap into place on the HVAC module.
  2. Connect the vacuum line to the actuator.
  3. Remove the hand vacuum pump (2) and reinstall the vacuum line to the recirculation actuator.
  4. Reposition the relay pack.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the relay pack bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  8. Install the rear I/P compartment cover to the I/P.
  9. Install the screws and push pin to the rear I/P compartment cover.
  10. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  11. Install the right I/P insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
