With the trunk closed, verify the trunk ajar message is on.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Close the trunk.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Lamp Switch parameter in the Body Control Module inputs data list.

Does the scan tool display Off?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release solenoid.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Trunk Lamp Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Off?

Test the signal circuit of the trunk ajar switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release solenoid. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the rear compartment lid release solenoid. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement in Body Rear End.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
