Introduction
During Body Control Module (BCM) related service, the procedures below
are designated to set-up the BCM correctly. Before you start, read these procedures
carefully and completely.
Setup New Body Control Module (BCM)
Tools Required
Scan Tool (Tech 2)
Important:
• | Read this procedure carefully and completely. |
• | The BCM will not function properly if the Setup New BCM procedure
is not performed. |
• | Perform the Theft Deterrent Re-learn procedure after successfully
finishing the Setup New BCM procedure. If the Theft Deterrent Re-learn procedure
is not performed after a BCM replacement, the following conditions may
occur: |
- | The vehicle will not be protected against theft by the PASSLOCK
system. |
- | The engine will not crank nor start. |
- Connect a Scan Tool
(Tech 2) to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Turn the ignition switch on.
- Select Diagnostics and input all of the required data when prompted
by the Scan Tool
(Tech
2).
- Select BODY CONTROL MODULE.
- Select SPECIAL FUNCTIONS.
- Select New VIN and input all required data.
- Exit back to the SPECIAL FUNCTIONS menu.
- Select BCM REPROGRAMMING.
- The scan tool will display DO YOU WANT TO SETUP A BODY CONTROL
MODULE? At the prompt, select SETUP BCM hotspot on the scan tool.
- The scan tool will display: NOW SETTING UP THE NEW BODY CONTROL
MODULE.
- When the BCM has been setup successfully, the scan tool will display:
BODY CONTROL MODULE SETUP IS COMPLETE.
- When the BCM Setup Procedure and VIN have been entered, proceed
with the Theft Deterrent Re-learn procedure.
NOTE:
After the above procedure
has been completed, personalization of the BCM defaults to a default
setting. Inform the customer that the personalization settings must
be set again.
Theft Deterrent Re-Learn
Perform this procedure under the following conditions:
• | BCM has been replaced in the vehicle and the Setup New BCM procedure
has been successfully completed. |
• | Ignition key cylinder assembly has been replaced. |
There are three ways of performing the Theft Deterrent Re-Learn procedure,
depending on the type of Techline equipment available:
- Techline terminal and a Scan Tool
(quickest method).
- T-50 or T-60.
- Re-Learn without a Scan Tool
or Techline equipment (slowest method).
Theft Deterrent Re-Learn Using Techline Equipment and Tech 2 Scan Tool
- Connect the Scan Tool
to the Data Link Connector (DLC) on the vehicle.
- At the Scan Tool
main menu, select SERVICE PROGRAMMING.
- Enter the requested information.
- Select REQUEST INFO.
- Disconnect the Scan Tool
from the vehicle.
- Connect the Scan Tool
to the Techline terminal.
- Select SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM (SPS).
- Select TERMINAL TO TECH 2 PROGRAMMING.
- Select DONE.
- Follow instructions on the Techline terminal to Handheld Communications
Setup screen.
- Select THEFT MODULE RE-LEARN.
- Select PROGRAM at the summary screen. The terminal will download
information to the Scan Tool
.
- Disconnect the Scan Tool
from the Techline terminal.
- Connect the Scan Tool
to the DLC on the vehicle.
- At the Scan Tool
main menu, select SERVICE PROGRAMMING.
- Answer the question prompted by the Scan Tool
.
- Select RE-LEARN.
- The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the BCM will be prepared
for re-learn.
- A security timer will be on for approximately 10 minutes. During
the 10 minute wait period, Scan Tool
must remain connected to the vehicle.
- Turn the ignition switch off when the PCM and BCM are prepared
to re-learn.
- Turn the ignition switch to the start position.
- The engine should start when the ignition switch is turned to
the start position.
- Disconnect the Scan Tool
from the DLC.
Theft Deterrent Re-Learn Without Scan Tool or Techline Equipment
This procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. Make sure the battery
is fully charged before proceeding.
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Turn the ignition switch all the way from the off to the start
position, then leave it in the on position. Note: The engine will not crank.
- The SECURITY will come on and stay on for at least 10 minutes.
- Turn the ignition switch off for five seconds.
- Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 again for a second time.
- Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 again for a third time.
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Turn the ignition switch all the way to the start position. The
engine should now start.
- Check for BCM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Important: After programming, perform the following to avoid future misdiagnosis:
- Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
- Connect the scan tool to the data link connector.
- Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF.
- Use the scan tool in order to retrieve history DTCs from all modules.
- Clear all history DTCs.
