Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling, and Recharging (ACR4) System

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Remove the A/C compressor splash shield (1).

  6. Object Number: 378602  Size: SH
  7. Remove the transmission oil cooler line from the brackets.

  8. Object Number: 264796  Size: SH
  9. Remove the retaining bolt from the A/C compressor hose.
  10. Remove the wiring harness clip and reposition.
  11. Remove the front mounting nuts and the rear mounting bolt from the A/C compressor.
  12. Remove the A/C compressor.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 264796  Size: SH
  1. Install the A/C compressor.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the mounting nuts to the A/C compressor.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the mounting bolt to the A/C compressor.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

  7. Install the retaining bolt to the A/C compressor hose.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  9. Install the wiring harness clip.

  11. Install the transmission oil cooler line into the brackets.

  12. Object Number: 327293  Size: SH
  13. Install the A/C compressor splash shield (1).
  14. Install the bolt.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  18. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  19. Leak test the system. Refer to Leak Testing .
