  1. Disconnect the electronic compass module connector.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  3. Connect a J 39200 .
  4. Test CKT 1141 cavity 9 of the electronic compass module to ground for open or short to ground.

Does the voltage measure in the specified range?

10-15 V

Go to Step 3

  1. Connect a J 39200 .
  2. Test CKT 1141 cavity 9 to cavity 10 of the electronic compass module to ground for open or short to ground.

Does the voltage measure in the specified range?

10-15 V

Inspect for an open or short to ground in CKT 1141 (BRN).

Was there a problem with CKT 1141 (BRN)?

Inspect for an open or short to ground in CKT 251 (BLK/WHT).

Was there a problem with CKT 251 (BLK/WHT)?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector C2.
  3. Connect a J 39200 .
  4. Test for an open or high resistance in CKT 337 (TAN/WHT) between the electronic compass module cavity B and Instrument Cluster C2 cavity B5.

Is the resistance less than the specified range?

5 ohms

Inspect for an open or short to ground in CKT 337 (TAN/WHT).

Was there a problem with CKT 337 (TAN/WHT)?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector C2.
  3. Connect a J 39200 .
  4. Test for an open or high resistance in CKT 336 (PPL/WHT) between Cavity 7 of the electronic compass module and instrument cluster  C2 cavity B7.

Does the resistance measure less than the specified value?

5 ohms

Inspect for an open or short to ground in CKT 336 (PPL/WHT).

Was there a problem with CKT 336 (PPL/WHT)?

  1. Install a known good electronic compass module.
  2. Drive the vehicle. Make several turns.

Does the compass display indicate a new direction when the vehicle turns?

Are the connector terminals OK?
