Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling, and Recharging (ACR4) System
    • J 38042 Dual O-Ring Joint Separator
  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the cross car support brace. Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement in Body Front End.

  3. Object Number: 378608  Size: SH
  4. Remove the sight shield of the rear engine.
  5. Loosen the retaining clamp screw.
  6. Use the J 38042 to disconnect the accumulator inlet and outlet connections.
  7. Remove the retaining clamp screw.

  9. Remove the accumulator (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the accumulator (1).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the retaining clamp screw.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  5. Connect and torque the accumulator inlet and outlet connections.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator connections to 34 N·m (25 lb ft).

  7. Install the sight shield of the rear engine.
  8. Install the cross car brace. Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  9. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  10. Leak test the system. Refer to Leak Testing .
