HOOD FLUTTER OR VIBRATION ADD SHIM TO COWL CONTACT AREA

HOOD FLUTTER

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-88 DELTA 88 AND NINETY-EIGHT MODELS ----------------- Some 1987-88 Delta 88 and Ninety-Eight models may exhibit a hood flutter at highway speeds. This generally is caused by an excessive clearance between the center-rear bumper assembly and the cowl shroud panel that the bumper rests against. Should this condition be encountered, glue a plastic shim of approximately 1/4" thickness to the cowl panel at the point of contact with the hood bumper. An acceptable adhesive for this application should be equivalent to Loctite 422,415 or 495. The bumper can be adjusted to 19.5 mm (3/4") as a starting position and then adjusted to assure slight bumper compression when the hood is closed. DISCLAIMER ----------

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
