Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the engine mount struts. Refer to
Engine Mount Strut Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Install the engine support fixture. Refer to
Engine Support Fixture
.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Disconnect the three-way catalytic converter pipe from the right
(rear) exhaust manifold. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the transaxle mount lower nuts. Refer to
Transmission Mount Replacement
.
- Remove the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to
Engine Mount Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Using the J 28467-34
, raise the left (front) and lower the right (rear) of the engine in
order to obtain clearance between the forward servo cover and the frame. Refer
to
Engine Support Fixture
.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Position a drain pan under the forward servo cover.
- Remove the bolts (12)
attaching the servo cover (13) to the transaxle case.
- Remove the forward servo cover (13).
- Remove the forward servo cover O-ring (14).
- Remove the forward servo piston assembly (15-21).
- Remove the forward servo spring (22).
- For information on the disassembly and inspection of the forward
servo piston assembly (15-21), refer to the Transmission/Transaxle/Transfer
Case Unit Repair Manual.
Installation Procedure
- Install the forward servo
spring (22).
- Install the forward servo piston assembly (15-21).
- Install the forward servo cover O-ring (14).
- Install the forward servo cover (13).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the forward
servo cover attaching bolts (12).
Tighten
Tighten the forward servo cover attaching bolts (12) to 11 N·m
(97 lb in).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Using the J 28467-34
, lower the left (front) and raise the right (rear) of the engine.

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to

in General Information.
- Install the engine mount lower nuts. Refer to
Engine Mount Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Install the transaxle mount lower nuts. Refer to
Transmission Mount Replacement
.
- Connect the three-way catalytic converter pipe to the right (rear)
exhaust manifold. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to
Engine Support Fixture
.
- Install the engine mount struts. Refer to
Engine Mount Strut Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in
Engine Electrical.
