  1. Place the transaxle gear selector in the PARK position.
  2. Disconnect the brake transmission shift lock control actuator (BTSI) electrical connector.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Does the transaxle shift out of PARK?

Disconnect the brake transmission shift lock control (BTSI) rod.

Disconnect the transaxle shift cable at the steering column.

Does the transaxle shift out of PARK?

Go to Step 5

  1. Reconnect the transaxle range selector cable at the steering column.
  2. Disconnect the transaxle range selector cable at the transaxle.

Does the transaxle shift out of PARK?

Go to Step 6

Repair the transaxle internal linkage.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Repair the linear shift assembly in the steering column. Refer to Linear Shift Assembly - Disassemble.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a test lamp from terminal A of the BTSI connector to ground.
  2. Firmly depress the brake pedal.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Leave the test lamp at the same location.
  2. Disconnect the stop lamp switch connector C2.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair the short to B+ in CKT 1135 between the BTSI and the stop lamp switch.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Adjust or replace the stop lamp switch as needed. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement .
