Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 759867  Size: SH
  3. If you are replacing one assist step support bracket, remove the assist step nut. If you are replacing more than one assist step support bracket, remove the assist step. Refer to Assist Step Replacement .
  4. Remove the assist step support bracket to assist step support inner bracket bolts.
  5. Remove the assist step support bracket from the vehicle.
  6. If you are replacing the assist step support inner brackets, perform the following steps.
  7. 5.1. Mark the location of the assist step support inner brackets with a grease pencil.
    5.2. Drill out the assist step support inner bracket rivets.
    5.3. Remove the assist step support inner bracket from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. If you are replacing the assist step support inner brackets, perform the following steps.
  2. 1.1. Align the assist step support inner bracket with the marks made with a grease pencil.
    1.2. Using new rivets, install the assist step support inner bracket to the vehicle.

  3. Position the assist step support bracket to the assist step support inner bracket.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the assist step support bracket bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  7. If you are replacing one assist step support bracket, install the assist step nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the assist step nut to10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. If you are replacing more than one assist step support bracket, install the assist step. Refer to Assist Step Replacement .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
