This will supplement Oldsmobile Management Bulletin 86-1-10 regarding service replacement transaxle assemblies. Instances have occurred where SRTA units have been installed for shift pleasability or minor repair items which could have been serviced by the dealership faster and at less cost.
Dealer Management Builetin 86-1-10 states, "The decision to repair or use a SRTA unit is to be based on sound judgement."
Use SRTA when the projected cost to overhaul the transaxle is more than the cost of a SRTA replacement.
Do not use SRTA for any on-car service items or overhauls that are projected to cost less than a SRTA replacement.
Contact your zone office if further clarification is required.
All component parts for servicing all models and years are available through GM Service Parts Operations (GMSPO).
When ordering service parts (including SRTA) refer to the latest parts catalog. Be sure to order the correct service parts based on the vehicle model year and transmission application (calibration).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
