PAINT ADHESION ON EXTERIOR CHROME MOULDINGS

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1983-84 Cadillac 'E - K' Series

The painted accent stripe on the chrome body side and roof mouldings of come 1983 and 1984 'E & K' Cadillacs built before July 1, 1984 (E - Break Point 675512, K - Break Point 838932) may blister or peel during service.

If the condition is encountered, the mouldings may be repaired with pinstriping tape as follows:

1. Double mask the moulding to prevent damage to the paint finish of the car.

2. Remove any remaining paint from the moulding using a lacquer stripper.

3. Thoroughly clean the moulding using lacquer thinner.

4. When the moulding is clean and dry, apply 1/8 in. flat black pinstriping (3M P/N 71393 or equivalent) to the recessed portion of the moulding.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
