Condition

Some customers may comment that the stop lamps (rear brake lights) remain on or that the brakes activate (apply) without stepping on the brake pedal.

Cause

This condition may be caused by a misadjusted stop lamp switch.

Correction

Do NOT replace the stop lamp switch.

Adjust the stop lamp switch rod by performing the procedure in this bulletin.

  1. Remove the stop lamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement in SI.

  2. Object Number: 1949627  Size: SH
  3. Insert the stop lamp switch into the switch holder (1).

  4. Object Number: 1949631  Size: SH
  5. Push the stop lamp switch into the switch bracket (2) until the stop lamp switch rod makes contact with the switch stopper (3).
  6. Push and turn the switch 90 degrees clockwise.

  7. Object Number: 1949635  Size: SH

    Important: The extended length of the stop lamp switch rod should be 0.2-1.2 mm (0.008-0.05 in).

  8. Inspect the length of the stop lamp switch rod (4). The length should be 0.2-1.2 mm (0.008-0.05 in).
