Diagnostic Instructions
DTC Descriptors
DTC P1761: Tap Up and Down Switch Signal Circuit
DTC P1762: Trans Mode Switch Signal Circuit
Circuit/System Description
This is a data fault detection by the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly. This fault is handled inside the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly.
Conditions for Running the DTC
• | The engine speed is greater than 500 RPM for 5 seconds. |
• | Ignition voltage is between 9.0 volts and 19.0 volts. |
Conditions for Setting the DTC
P1761
The TCM detects that the serial data for the Tap Up/Tap Down Switch signal circuit is corrupt 3 or more times in 10 seconds
P1762
The TCM detects that the serial data for the Trans Mode Switch signal circuit is corrupt 3 or more times in 10 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
• | DTCs P1761 and P1762 are Type C DTCs. |
• | The TCM inhibits the Tap Up Tap Down function. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
DTCs P1761 and P1762 are Type C DTCs.

Circuit/System Verification
- Start the engine. Let the engine run for at least 1 minute.
- Ignition OFF for at least 30 seconds to allow for the complete shutdown of the TCM.
- Ignition ON, verify that DTC P1762 is not set.
⇒ | If DTC P1762 is set, reprogram the TCM. If the DTC resets, replace the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly. |
- Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTC P1761 should not set.
⇒ | If DTC P1761 resets, reprogram the body control module (BCM). If the DTC resets, replace the BCM. |
- Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
