Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1825675  Size: SH
  1. Remove the starter, if equipped with a manual transmission. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  2. Remove the clutch, if equipped. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement.
  3. Install the J 43653 (1) to the engine block in order to hold the flywheel.

  4. Object Number: 1578311  Size: SH

    Important: It may be necessary to remove the chamfer (bevel) from the edge of an 18 mm socket in order to get full engagement on the thin-headed flywheel bolts.

  5. Remove the flywheel bolts, if equipped with a automatic transmission.
  6. Important: Do not orientate the flywheel to the crankshaft. It is balanced separately from the engine.

  7. Remove the flywheel.
  8. Clean the thread adhesive from the flywheel bolt holes. Use a nylon bristle brush to clean the holes in the crankshaft.

  10. Remove the flywheel bolts, if equipped with a manual transmission.
  11. Remove the flywheel.
  12. Clean the thread adhesive from the flywheel bolt holes. Use a nylon bristle brush to clean the holes in the crankshaft.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1591936  Size: SH
  1. Install the flywheel, if equipped with a manual transmission.
  2. Install the flywheel bolts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 53 N·m (39 lb ft) plus an additional 25 degrees using the J 45059 .

  4. Install the flywheel if equipped with an automatic transmission.
  5. Install the flywheel bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 53 N·m (39 lb ft) plus an additional 25 degrees using the J 45059 .

  7. Remove the J 43653 (1) from the engine block.
  8. Install the clutch, if equipped. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .
  9. Install the starter, if equipped with a manual transmission. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
