Paint Finish Concerns on Underside of Hood (Worn/Scuffed) at Front Inner Fender (Spot repair Paint and Install Protectors)

Some customers may comment on areas or spots under the hood where the paint appears to be worn or scuffed at the front inner fender.

This condition may be the result of the front inner wheelhouse contacting the front inner fender of the hood.

Spot repair the paint on the underside of the hood at the front inner fender and install protectors following the procedure below:

1. Open the hood.
2. Clean the underside of the hood inner fender area.
3. Dry the underside of the hood inner fender area.
4. Spot repair the paint color per manufacturers' instructions on any worn or scuffed paint. Refer to the 2007 GM Approved Refinish Materials booklet (GM 4901 MD-2007) for specific products.

5. Refer to the model-specific instructions below for installation of the protectors.

Pontiac Solstice

Tip
The protector tape, P/N 25833317, will need to be unrolled and straightened prior to installation. The protector tape should not overlap the triangular protector when installed correctly.

1. Install the left triangular protector, P/N 25833315, to the underside of the hood with the flat part of the protector up against the upper headlight bracket (1) and the triangular point angled toward the lower headlight bracket (2).




Important: The protector tape will need to be curved around the inner fender while working out any bubbles or air pockets that may form.

2. Install P/N 25833317 to the left underside hood area next to the triangular protector, starting at the lower front edge of the inner fender wheelhouse opening on the hood (1), working upwards with the tape.
3. Install the right triangular protector, P/N 25833316, to the underside of the hood with the flat part of the protector up against the upper headlight bracket and the triangular point angled toward the lower headlight bracket.
4. Install P/N 25833317 to the right underside hood area next to the triangular protector, starting at the lower front edge of the inner fender wheelhouse opening on the hood, working upwards with the tape.
5. Close the hood.

Opel GT and Saturn Sky

Important: Press out any air pockets or bubbles that may form when installing the protectors.

1. Install P/N 25833648 to the underside of the hood, starting at the front edge of the lower inner fender wheelhouse opening (1) and working upwards with the tape.
2. Repeat this entire procedure for the opposite side.
3. Close the hood.
