HVAC System Air Duct Temperature Fluctuates with Vehicle Speed (Install Updated Design A/C Condenser)

Subject:HVAC System Air Duct Temperature Fluctuates With Vehicle Speed (Install Updated Design A/C Condenser)

Models:2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice
2007 Opel GT
with 2.0L or 2.4L Engine (VINs X, B - RPOs LNF, LE5)
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 7Y139825

Condition

Some customers may comment that the temperature of the air coming from the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) ducts fluctuates with the vehicle's speed. The air conditioning (A/C) system discharge air temperature will be cold at idle and as the vehicle accelerates, the air temperature will increase until a steady speed is obtained. After a steady speed is obtained, the air temperature may not be as cold as it was at idle.

Correction

Technicians are to verify proper operation of the HVAC system and then install an updated design A/C condenser.

  1. Verify that the HVAC system has the proper refrigerant charge and is operating properly. Correct any concerns that may be found.
  2. If the HVAC system is fully charged and functioning properly, replace the A/C condenser with an updated design part, P/N 19130430. Refer to the Condenser Replacement (LE5/LNF-Second Design) procedure in SI.
  3. The new A/C condenser will also require the installation of a new design power steering cooler, P/N 15885986, on vehicles equipped with the 2.4L (RPO LE5) engine.

  4. Recharge the A/C system with a revised refrigerant charge amount of 0.47 kg (1.03 lbs). Install a new A/C charge label, P/N 25831315, over the existing charge label.
  5. Verify proper operation of the HVAC system.
