Tools Required

J 45868 RWD Output Shaft Seal Installer

1. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft, Differential, and Driveline Support Replacement.



2. Remove the output shaft nut.
3. Remove the output shaft flange.
4. Remove the O-ring seal from the output shaft flange.
5. Remove the output shaft flange dirt defector from the output shaft flange if necessary.



6. Remove the rear transmission housing seal from the extension housing using a suitable tool.

1. Install the new output shaft seal using the J 45868 .



2. Install the output shaft flange dirt defector to the output shaft flange if previously removed.
3. Install the output shaft flange.
4. Install the O-ring seal to the output shaft flange.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

5. Install the output shaft nut.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 113 N·m (83 lb ft).




6. Use a hammer and a punch to crimp the output shaft nut to the output shaft.
7. Check the transmission fluid level. Add if necessary. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement.
8. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft, Differential, and Driveline Support Replacement.
