1. Cruise Control Malfunction

Circuit/System Description

The cruise control switch contains an LED that illuminates to indicate the cruise control system has been switched ON. Voltage is applied through the ON/OFF switch to the LED when the switch is pressed. Pressing the switch again opens the switch and the lamp turns OFF. The body control module (BCM) monitors the cruise control indicator switch.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Cruise Control Switch parameter. Verify the parameter changes each time the switch is pressed.

If the parameter does not change, refer to Cruise Control Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the X85 inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified value, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X3 harness connector at the X85 inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.
  5. Ignition ON, test for B+ between the B+ circuit terminal 5 and ground.
  6. If less than the specified value, test the circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 BCM.
  7. Test for B+ between the B+ circuit terminal 5 and the signal circuit terminal 3.
  8. If less than the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 BCM.
  9. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X3 harness connector at the K9 BCM.
  10. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 9 and ground.
  11. If less than the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
  12. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the S70L steering wheel control switch-left.
