For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Remove the piston with connection rod. Refer to Piston, Connecting Rod, and Bearing Removal.
  2. Note: Note installation position of the piston in respect of the connection rod.

  3. Detach the piston from the connection rod.

  4. Object Number: 2026856  Size: SH
    • Remove the retainer (1) from the piston eye.
    • Do not damage the bore.
    • Press the piston pin out of the piston.

  5. Remove the piston rings using piston ring pliers (1).
  6. Remove oil carbon from the groove with a split piston ring, filed to a wedge-shape.

  7. Measure the piston ring gap.
  8. • Tension the piston ring in the cylinder and measure the gap with a feeler gage.

    • Permissible ring gap:
       - Rectangular compression ring (1): 0.20-0.40 mm (0.0079-0.0157 in)
       - Tapered compression ring (2): 0.40-0.60 mm (0.0157-0.0236 in)
       - Oil scraper ring (3): 0.25-0.75 mm (0.0098-0.0295 in)

  9. Check piston ring vertical play with a feeler gage (1) in the piston ring groove.
  10. Permissible vertical play:

    • Rectangular compression ring (1): 0.04-0.08 mm (0.0016-0.0031 in)
    • Tapered compression ring (2): 0.03-0.07 mm (0.0012-0.0028 in)
    • Oil scraper ring (3): 0.03-0.13 mm (0.0012-0.0051 in)
