Component Name

Warning: To prevent personal injury and/or component damage, do not allow the weight of the vehicle to load the front wheels, or attempt to operate the vehicle, when the wheel drive shaft(s) or wheel drive shaft nut(s) are removed. To do so may cause the inner bearing race to separate, resulting in damage to brake and suspension components and loss of vehicle control.

Caution: Wheel drive shaft boots, seals and clamps should be protected from sharp objects any time service is performed on or near the wheel drive shaft(s). Damage to the boot(s), the seal(s) or the clamp(s) may cause lubricant to leak from the joint and lead to increased noise and possible failure of the wheel drive shaft.

Preliminary Procedure

Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

Front Wheel Drive Shaft Spindle Nut

Procedure

  1. Tighten new fastener.
  2. Attach X to 3 bolts on the wheel hub.
  3. Counterhold with in conjunction with extension KM-956-1.
  4. Unscrew the nut.
  5. Detach X from wheel hub.

Tighten
Tighten nut 150 N·m(111 lb ft). Then release nut by 45° and retighten to 250 N·m(184 lb ft).

Swing Arm Upper Fastener

Procedure

Detach the upper swing arm ball joint from the suspension strut.

Tighten
50 N·m(37 lb ft)

Tie Rod End

Procedure

Detach the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

Tighten
35 N·m(26 lb ft)

Guide Joint

Procedure

  1. Tighten new fastener.
  2. Detach the guide joint of the control arm from the steering knuckle.
  3. Pull the control arm downwards and remove the guide joint from the steering knuckle.

Tighten
30 N·m (22 lb ft) + 60 degrees + 15 degrees

Front Wheel Drive Shaft

Procedure

  1. Detach the drive shaft from the wheel hub using KM-6282 using 3 bolts.
  2. Press drive shaft out of wheel hub.
  3. Remove the drive shaft.
  4. Place collecting pan underneath, transmission fluid will escape.
  5. Correct transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement
