Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement Diesel

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  4. Remove the right front liner.
  5. Remove the engine shield. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement.
  6. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.

A/C Compressor and Condenser Hose Assembly Bolt

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
22 N·m(16 lb ft)

Sealing Washer

Remove and discard the sealing washer. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement.

A/C Compressor Bolt (Qty: 3)

Tighten the bolts in sequence.

Tighten
22 N·m(16 lb ft)

A/C Compressor Assembly

Procedure

Perform compressor oil balancing. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
  2. Remove the front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement.
  3. Release the drive belt.
  4. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

A/C Compressor Hose Fastener

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tip
Remove the A/C compressor hose from the A/C compressor and cap hose.

Tighten
20 N·m (15 lb ft)

Sealing Washer (Qty: 2)

Procedure

Discard the sealing washers. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement.

A/C Compressor Fastener (Qty: 3)

Tip
Tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolts in the sequence shown in graphic.

Tighten
22 N·m (16 lb ft)

A/C Compressor Assembly

Procedure

When replacing the A/C compressor, balance the A/C compressor oil. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing.

  2. Remove front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement.
  3. Release the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
  4. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

A/C Compressor Hose Fastener

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
20 N·m (15 lb ft)

Procedure

Remove the A/C compressor hose from the A/C compressor and cap hose.

Sealing Washer (Qty: 2)

Procedure

Remove and discard sealing washers. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement.

A/C Compressor Fastener (Qty: 3)

Tip
Tighten the A/C compressor mounting fasteners in sequence shown in graphic.

Tighten
22 N·m (16 lb ft)

A/C Compressor Assembly

Procedure

When replacing the A/C compressor, balance the compressor oil. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement
  4. Remove the front bumper fascia assembly. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement
  5. Remove the charge air cooler outlet hose assembly. Refer to Charge Air Cooler Outlet Hose Replacement
  6. Remove front compartment splash shield. Refer to Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement
  7. Remove front wheelhouse front liner - right side. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Front Liner Replacement
  8. Remove the power brake booster pump. Refer to Power Brake Booster Pump Replacement
  9. Release the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
  10. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

A/C Compressor Hose Fastener

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Procedure

Remove the A/C compressor hose from the A/C compressor and cap hose.

Tighten
20 N·m (15 lb ft)
