Preliminary Procedures

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement.
3. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.

Torque Converter

Caution: Support the back side of the torque converter housing while installing the seal. Install the seal until it stops moving. Applying excessive pressure to the seal once it is seated could cause damage to the torque converter housing casting.

Procedure

1. Mount the DT-49553 remover/installer to the converter and lift it out.
2. Check that the torque converter has reached the correct position by placing a steel ruler on the torque converter mating surface and measure the distance between the mating surface and the driving plate contact surface on the torque converter. The distance should be:

•	LBW/A28NET: min. 9 mm.

•	LDK/A20NTH: min. 15 mm.

•	LBX/A20DJT: min. 15 mm.

•	LBS/A20DTM: min. 15 mm.
