The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve is controlled by the engine control module (ECM) through the EGR solenoid. A reference voltage is supplied to the EGR valve solenoid. The ECM controls the solenoid by grounding the control circuit.
• | The ignition is ON, or the engine is running. |
• | The DTCs run continuously when the above conditions are met. |
The ECM detects an open circuit when the EGR is commanded ON.
The ECM detects a short to ground when the EGR is commanded ON.
The ECM detects a short to voltage when the EGR is commanded ON.
DTCs P0403, P0489 and P0490 are Type B DTCs.
DTCs P0403, P0489 and P0490 are Type B DTCs.

⇒ | If any other DTCs are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle for further diagnosis. |
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
⇒ | If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module (ECM). |
⇒ | If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module (ECM). |
