Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- Open the hood.
- Remove the right engine splash guard.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the timing belt upper front cover. Refer to
Timing Belt Upper Front Cover Removal.
- Remove the spark plugs. Refer to
Spark Plug Replacement.
- Detach the engine management wiring harness from intake manifold, cylinder head cover.
Remove from bracket.
- Remove the coolant expansion tank closure cap.
- Remove the oil dipstick.
- Set up the crankshaft.
Move the crankshaft in the direction of the engine rotation to the first cylinder TDC position (mark 1).
- Apply guidance marks.
Attach 3 markings (2) as an aid to one of the camshaft adjusters, each one offset by 90 degrees to the marking applied (1).
Inspection Procedure
Note: Follow manufacturer instructions.
- Calibrate the pressure loss tester.
Connect to the compressed air system.
- Install the pressure loss tester.
| Note: Wheels must be in contact with the ground.

• | Engage first gear and apply the parking brake. |
• | Install the connecting piece into the spark plug thread of cylinder no. 1. |
• | Apply compressed air to cylinder no. 1. |
- Pressure Loss, Check
• | Take pressure loss reading. |
- | The maximum permissible pressure differential between cylinders is approx. 10 percent. |
- | Maximum pressure loss of a cylinder is 25 percent. |
• | Take note of any visible escape of compressed air. |
| Intake manifold, exhaust manifold, crankcase |
• | Take note of any bubble formation in the coolant compensation tank. |
- Perform pressure loss test by analogy on cylinders 3, 4 and 2.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the pressure loss tester.
Remove the connection piece from the spark plug thread.
- Put the vehicle in neutral.
- Insert the oil dipstick.
- Install the coolant expansion tank closure cap.
- Install the spark plugs. Refer to
Spark Plug Replacement.
- Install the engine management wiring harness to the intake manifold.
- Install the timing belt upper front cover. Refer to
Timing Belt Upper Front Cover Installation.
- Raise the vehicle by its full height.
- Install the right engine splash guard.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Close the hood.
