Rear Axle Replacement G96

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove the muffler. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement
  2. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement.
  3. Remove both rear wheel drive shafts. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
  4. Remove the bushing bolts and move aside the stabilizer shaft. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement.

Protective Cover

Procedure

  1. Unhook the protective cover from the hydraulic pump.
  2. Undo the cable clips.
  3. Remove the electrical connection.

Rear Axle Assembly Bolts (Qty 4)

Warning: To prevent personal injury and/or component damage, support the differential case when removing the case from the axle housing. If the case is not supported, the differential case could fall and cause personal injury or damage to the differential case.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Procedure

  1. Support with a column jack.
  2. Secure with cable ties.
  3. Lower the differential clutch assembly.
  4. Remove the Limited Slip Differential Clutch. Refer to Limited Slip Differential Clutch Replacement.

Tighten
90 N·m(66 lb ft) + 90° + 15°

Rear Axle Bolts (Qty 4)

Warning: The hydraulic pressure in the differential clutch is very high. To prevent personal injury, wait for at least 10 minutes before removing any parts from the differential clutch.

Tighten
30 N·m(22 lb ft)

Procedure

  1. Support the rear axle with a column jack.
  2. Secure with cable ties.
  3. Lower the differential clutch assembly.
  4. Use new bolts.

Tighten
90 N·m (66 lb ft) + 90 degrees + 15 degrees
