GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

The tire pressure monitor (TPM) system uses

    • 4 Tire Pressure Monitor Sensors
    • Remote Function Actuator (RFA)
    • Auto Learn Module (ALM)
    • Body Control Module (BCM)
    • Driver Information Center (DIC)
    • Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
    • Serial data circuit

to perform the TPM learn mode functions.

After any tire rotation or component replacement the TPM system will automatically learn the values in the following way:

    • wait 15 min before moving/driving the car
    • drive over 20 km/h (15 mph) for 9 minutes cumulative driving during one ignition ON cycle (until the tell-tale in IPC is turned off, if being on).

During a learn procedure it can happen that DIC first shows "last known pressure values" from the previous tire setting, then dashes, then the actual pressure values for the new tire setting.

If TPM does not accept the new sensor make a new drive after 15 min still stand with ignition off (key out). Sometimes the reception of the RF signal can have been disturbed along the road due to different reasons.
