Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Support the rear axle.
  3. If the vehicle is equipped with automatic level control, disconnect the air tube connector from the shock absorber.

  4. Object Number: 185820  Size: MH
  5. Remove the shock absorber upper bolt and nut.

  6. Object Number: 185821  Size: MH
  7. Remove the shock absorber lower bolt and nut.
  8. Remove the shock absorber.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 185820  Size: MH
  1. Install the shock absorber.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the shock absorber bolts and nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the shock absorber nuts to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

  5. If the vehicle is equipped with automatic level control, install the air tube connector to the shock absorber.
  6. Remove the support from the rear axle.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
