- The rearview mirror is attached to a rearview mirror support which
is bonded to the windshield. This rearview mirror support is installed by
the windshield supplier using a plastic-polyvinyl butyral adhesive.
- In order to install a detached rearview mirror support or to install
a new part, use the following items:
• | Loctite® Minute-Bond Adhesive 312 two component
pack P/N 1052369 or the equivalent |
• | The original rearview mirror support that has been prepared as
outlined in steps 4 and 5 or a replacement rearview mirror support |
• | A wax marking pencil or crayon |
• | A fine grit emery cloth or sandpaper (320 or 360) |
Installation Procedure
- Measure from the top of the windshield to the
top of the rearview mirror support.
- Mark the location on the
outside of the windshield with wax pencil or crayon. Make a larger diameter
circle around the rearview mirror support circle on the outside windshield
surface (1).
- On the inside windshield surface, clean the large circle with
a paper towel and a domestic scouring cleanser or a window cleaning solution
and polishing compound.
- Rub the area until completely clean and dry.
- When dry, clean the area with an alcohol saturated paper towel
in order to remove any traces of scouring powder or cleaning solution.
- With a piece of fine grit (320 or 360) emery cloth or sandpaper,
sand the bonding surface of the new rearview mirror support or of the factory
installed rearview mirror support. If the original rearview mirror
support is to be reused, all the traces of the factory installed
adhesive must be removed prior to reinstallation.
- Wipe the sanded rearview mirror support with an alcohol-saturated,
clean, paper towel. Allow to dry.
- Follow the directions on the manufacturer's kit in order to prepare
the rearview mirror support prior to the installation on the windshield.
- Properly position the rearview mirror support to the premarked
location with the rounded end pointed upward.
- Press the rearview mirror support against the windshield for 30
to 60 seconds, exerting steady pressure against the windshield.
- After 5 minutes, remove excess adhesive with an alcohol moistened
paper towel or window cleaning solution.
- Reinstall the rearview mirror. Refer to
