  1. Turn the ignition switch on.
  2. Check the REAR DEFOG fuse and the HVAC/DRL fuse.

Are the REAR DEFOG fuse and the HVAC/DRL fuse OK?

Using a test light, connect by backprobing between the rear window defogger connector terminal C1 and ground.

Is the test light on?

  1. If the rear defogger indicator lamp turns off before test is made, press and release the rear defogger switch again.
  2. Using a test light, connect by backprobing between the rear window defogger relay connector terminal B5 and ground.

Is the test light on?

Using a test light connected to ground, check for power at the HEATED MIRROR fuse.

Is there power at the HEATED MIRROR fuse?

  1. If the rear defogger indicator lamp turns off before test is made, press and release the rear defogger switch again.
  2. Using a test light, connect by backprobing between either outside rearview mirror connector terminal D and ground.

Is the test light on?

Using a test light, connect between B+ and the outside rearview mirror connector terminal F by backprobing.

Is the test light on?

Repair poor connection or open in CKT 1040.

  1. Remove the REAR DEFOG fuse.
  2. Using a DMM set to measure resistance, connect by backprobing between the rear window defogger relay connector terminals B5 and C7.
  3. Make sure the ignition switch is on.
  4. While observing the DMM, press and release several times the rear defogger switch.

When cycling the rear defogger switch, does the DMM display a change of resistance between ∞ (OL) and less than 2ohms?
