WINDSHIELD REFLECTION OF INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATION

Subject: WINDSHIELD REFLECTION OF INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATION - 1982 6000 SERIES

If reflection of instrument panel illumination on the windshield is encountered, a light screen overlay (lens) is available that can be easily and quickly installed to correct the condition. Parts are available from zone offices and should be installed over the speedometer area lens as follows (care should be taken to minimize handling to avoid fingerprinting of overlay):

Do not remove cover papers from overlay until instructed to do so as follows:

1. Determine correct installation position by holding the overlay in front of the speedometer lens with the tape side towards the speedometer. Darts on front face cover paper indicate "up" position.

2. After determining proper installation position, hole for trip odometer reset stem may be drilled if required (see Figure 1).

3. With soft, lint free cloth and good quality glass cleaner, clean speedometer/gas gauge lens and surrounding area.

4. Remove cover paper from back face of overlay, peel release paper from tape, and carefully install overlay. Tape should attach overlay to the vertical trim at each end of the speedometer/gas gauge area. Press ends firmly in taped areas to assure good tape adhesion. After overlay has been installed, remove cover paper from front face.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
