The 1984 6000 STE uses a fully electronic instrument cluster. To ensure customer satisfaction and gain product knowledge, Pontiac has implemented a cluster exchange program, to be used for the entire 1984 model year.
If proper diagnosis indicates that the cluster is affected, contact your zone office, with complete information such as V.I. number, mileage, nature of condition, and how diagnosed. The zone will then provide you with a replacement cluster and instructions on where to ship the replaced cluster.
The DIC cluster is serviced as advised in Dealer Service Bulletin 84-8-8.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
