NOISY WIRE WHEEL COVERS
THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO INCLUDE ALL A-CAR DIVISIONS INVOLVED WITH VIN BREAKPOINTS AND PART NUMBERS FOR NEW COVERS.
Some 1986-88 A-cars equipped with wire wheel covers may exhibit a creaking/clicking type noise while being driven.
Current production and service covers have been modified to eliminate this noise. Modified covers were put into production on a running change with the following VIN breakpoints:
Division Plant VIN Breakpoints -------- ------ --------------- Buick Terrytown 406376 Oklahoma 412184
Chevrolet Ramos-Arizpe 504399 Ste. Therese 114929 Oklahoma 129129 Framingham 100708
Oldsmobile Ste. Therese 301988 Framingham 300492 Oshawa 311421
Pontiac Oshawa 207616
Terrytown 207691
If this type noise is experienced and has been determined to come from the covers, the following procedure should be followed:
1. Insure that the cover is installed properly, especially that the retention bolt is securely fastened.
2. Switch cover to another wheel.
3. If this does not work replace the cover with a new cover from GM PARTS with the following part numbers.
Buick P/N 10091787 Chevrolet P/N 10091785 Pontiac P/N 10091785 Oldsmobile P/N 10091786
Use applicable labour operation number and time.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
