SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE

The Driver Information Center System Check Table and Circuit Operation contain inaccurate information. The Driver Information Center lights all segments at once, not sequentially, upon power-up. Please make the following corrections to your copies of the 1987, 1988 and 1989 Pontiac 6000 Chassis Service Manuals.

1987 and 1988 Pontiac 6000 Chassis Service Manuals

1. On page 8A-86-3, in the System Check Table, under the Normal Response column, the statement "Each item in the DIC display lights up in half-second steps" should be replaced with "All segments in the DIC light up".

2. On page 8A-86-7, in the Circuit Operation, under DIC Display Test Sequence, the phrases "in half-second steps until all are lighted" and "When all the items are lighted", should be deleted.

1989 Pontiac 6000 Chassis Service Manuals

1. On page 8A-86-6, in the System Check Table, under the Normal Response column, the statement "Each item in the DIC display lights up in half-second steps" should be replaced with "All segments in the DIC light up".

2. On page 8A-86-10, in the Circuit Operation, under DIC Display Test Sequence, the phrases "in half-second steps until all are lighted", should be deleted.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
