1987 6000 AND GRAND AM MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 2.5L ENGINE
Some 1987 6000 and Grand Am models equipped with the 2.5L engine may experience a condition of stalling when placed in gear and Code 35 stores in the memory. This condition may occur at a cold start up at extremely low mileage. The fuel meter body to throttle body gasket (see figure 1) may have been inadvertently installed upside down which restricts some passages.
To repair this condition, separate the meter body from the throttle body and reinstall the gasket correctly making sure that the passages are not blocked by the gasket. Vehicles produced after approximately July 15, 1987 should not experience this condition.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
