NOISY WIRE WHEEL COVERS (PROCEDURE TO DIAGNOSE/REPAIR)

y NOISY WIRE WHEEL COVERS

Models Affected 1986-88 6000 ---------------

"This bulletin supersedes bulletin 87-3-84, dated 5/88. This bulletin is being reissued to include 1988 vehicles and VIN breakpoints."

Some 1986-88 6000 vehicles equipped with wire wheel covers may exhibit a creaking/clicking type noise while being driven.

Current production and service covers have been modified to eliminate this noise. Modified covers were put into production on a running change with the following VIN breakpoints:

Plant VIN Breakpoints ----- --------------- Oshawa J9207616 Terrytown JT207691

If this type noise is experienced and has been determined to come from the covers, the following procedure should be followed:

1. Insure that the cover is installed properly, especially that the retention bolt is securely fastened.

2. Switch cover to another wheel.

3. If this does not work replace the cover with a new cover, part number 10091785, from GMSPO.

Use applicable labor operation number and time.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
