Condition: On a 1987 Pontiac 6000 with LB6 2.8L V-6 engine and U21 (analog gauges) or U52 (digital gauges), the oil pressure warning light may flicker at idle, even though the oil pressure gauge is operating correctly. These vehicles have both a gauge and a warning light.
Cause: An oil pressure sender with a high trigger point and a warning light with a low trigger point may cause a flicker at low oil pressure (idle), even though the oil pressure is within specifications. This was corrected in production at VIN H9231415 at Oshawa and VIN HT231309 at Tarrytown.
Repair: Install a new oil pressure sender, P/N 10068576. Use this sender only for vehicles built prior to the above V.I.N.s. For vehicles after the above V.I.N.s, use the normally released sender, P/N 10068581.
Warranty Info: Use existing labour operations.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
