PERCEIVED DIAGONAL BODY/RIDE MOTION (FRT. CRADLE ASSEMBLY)

Models Affected: 1988 6000 WITH 2.8L OR 2.5L (VIN W OR R)

Some 1988 6000 vehicles assembled at Oshawa Plant (VIN Code 9) may exhibit a ride characteristic referred to as diagonal body/ride motion that may be attributable to mislocated cradle steering gear and/or lower control arm attaching holes.

This diagonal body/ride motion may be apparent when a vehicle is driven over road swells/dips at highway speeds, while maintaining the steering wheel in a straight ahead position. As the vehicle proceeds through this type of road irregularity, the normal vertical body/ride motion may be accompanied by a lateral body/ride motion that generates the sensation that the vehicle body is moving in a diagonal direction.

Vehicles exhibiting this condition may be repaired by replacing the front cradle assembly following applicable service manual procedures.

New cradle assembly part numbers are indicated below by engine RPO and are available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
