ENGINE EXCHANGE PROGRAM (ALL BASIC ENGINE PROBLEMS)

Models Affected: 1988 PONTIAC ALL WHEEL DRIVE - STE MODELS WITH A 3.1L ENGINE (VIN CODE "T") AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

To obtain helpful product feedback and to minimize customer vehicle down time, an engine exchange program is in effect and will continue until September 30, 1988. If customer comments are received concerning a basic engine problem (for example, low engine oil pressure, internal engine noises, engine overheat, engine misfire, or concerns such as coolant system leaks, or low engine power which appear to be related to the basic engine), the engine should be exchanged.

The exchange program will be administered by the Customer Satisfaction Department and all requests for exchange units will be handled through the Pontiac Technical Assistance Center.

All engines (new unit and concerned unit) are to be shipped prepaid and dealers are instructed to file for a transportation refund through the normal warranty system.

Please use applicable service labor code and labor time.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
